The idea of having a federal healthcare plan is leaving a sour taste in the mouths of lawmakers in a handful of states.
They're focusing their efforts now on blocking contraceptives from being covered.
Attorneys General from Florida and six other states are challenging the part of the federal health care law that requires contraceptives to be covered, saying it violates the rights of religious groups that object to them.
Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Nebraska and Texas are continuing with the lawsuit against the law...despite the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that upheld most of it.
The Justice Department wants the lawsuit dismissed.
In the meantime the Obama administation is working on a compromise and has agreed not to enforce the rule until August of next year.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has also decided to opt out of two provisions of the law, at least for now. One pertains to an expansion of the Medicaid Program. The other to building insurance 'exchanges'.
