At SimpleTuition, our goal is to help you spend less in college, save more in life, and get debt-free faster. And our blog isn?t the only thing that can help. After reading, check out our?student loan comparison tool, our?textbook center, and?SmarterBank, all of which work together to save you thousands on the cost of your education.
Now that you?re in college, the very idea of spending even more than one minute in your school?s library might make you throw up in your mouth a little bit. And when you?re home on break, you might forget that your local library even exists. But before you go another day swearing to never step foot in the library lobby, or in the stacks, consider digging out that old library card. Why? Well, here are a few good reasons:
1. Embrace the mood. If you?ve tried studying in your room and can?t help falling asleep, or if you?ve tried studying in the campus center and can?t stop people-watching or chatting with friends, then maybe all you need to finish that paper is a truly silent space: the library. There?s power in numbers, after all. Let the energy of your library-occupying peers get your academic juices going.
2. Browse for books. Sure, this one?s a little obvious, but take time to really think about the fact that there are literally tons of books on the library?s shelves, each one waiting to be borrowed and read. Seriously, if you need to do some research, oftentimes the best place to get started is a reference book, not necessarily an Internet search engine. If you are using the Internet, though (I mean, you should be, it?s the 21st century after all), then check your library?s website and use their online resources?they?re a goldmine.
3. Check out the music. While you just might not be a book person?and that?s okay?chances are you like to listen to as much music as you can get your hands on. If that?s the case then, well, you?re in luck, because the library is a great spot to pick up as much free music as your heart desires. Seriously. Check it out: the library is more than a place for books.
4. Claim the perks. The library?s a big place, which is why there?s also newspapers, periodicals, movies, and more (and hey, if you have an e-reader, then you can check out and download books from your couch) all for the golden price of: totally free.
