Jane Rowe, age 97, died November 17, 2012. She was born May 4, 1915, in Ludington, to William and Effie May (McAllister) Winey. She attended St. Simon Elementary School and graduated from Ludington High School, where she met her high school sweetheart on the tennis court.Jane was a tennis champion her senior year and enjoyed all kinds of sports. She married her sweetheart, Clyde Rowe, on July 3, 1939. After a time away, Clyde, an Internal Revenue Agent, and Jane, an executive secretary for the Selective Service Administration, returned to Ludington, until the SSA closed the Ludington office in 1972, and Jane retired. Clyde and Jane spent their vacations touring the United States and Canada. After Clyde?s death in 1987, Jane took advantage of traveling around the world, including three trips to Europe and several cruises to the Caribbean, Mediterranean and the Panama Canal. Jane was a communicant member of St. Simon Catholic Church, a life member of Catholic Daughters, St. Simon Altar Society, a member of the Little Flower Circle, Pink Ladies, and a volunteer at the old hospital and at the new Memorial Medical Center in Ludington. She was a past president of the Hospital Auxiliary and a charter member of the Women?s Civic Club. Jane was also a member of the Women?s Literary Club, Emblem Club, the Ludington Bridge Club and was a member of Lincoln Hills Golf Club. She cherished spending 24 winters in Florida. Her hobbies included traveling, sports, reading and time spent with her family and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her parents; a sister, Mildred Barber; brother-in-law, Lawrence Barber; a nephew, Thomas Swanson; and other family members.
FAMILY: Her son, Robert (Sonya) Rowe of Grand Rapids; granddaughters, Melissa Rowe and Michelle Rowe; great-grandchildren, Michael Tomko Jr., Tyler Rairigh, Alicia Rairigh, Dennis Rairigh III, Anthony Clark Jr., Mayson Clark and Bethany Clark; a nephew, Bill (June) Swanson.
MEMORIAL MASS: Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Simon Catholic Church, 702 E. Bryant Ave., Ludington, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas A. Schiller presiding.
