Android is growing like a wild fire and it is being adopted six times faster than iPhone, according to updated data from KPCB partner Mary Meeker.?
For those who don't know, Meeker is a well-respected industry watcher who delivers an Internet Trends report that is basically seen as gospel. She gave an update to her annual report today and TechCrunch?noted that the Android adoption rate is actually higher than it was earlier in the year (it was being adopted four times faster than iPhone earlier).??
When you combine this with the recent numbers from IDC,?which indicate Android represented 75 percent of smartphones shipped in the third quarter, it's clear that Google's mobile operating system is on fire. The crazy thing is that Android still has plenty of upside because there are about one billion smartphone users but five billion mobile phone users.?
Overall, Meeker expects there to be 160 million Android devices shipped per quarter and this compares to about 100 million Windows devices and 80 million iOS devices.?
Don't feel too bad for Apple though, as Meeker also found that iPad adoption is happening five times faster than iPhone adoption. The company just released the iPad mini?and the iPad 4th generation, and Apple sold three million tablets in three days.
Apple definitely wants market share but it seems to be doing just fine making enormous profits off all its devices. The company recently reported its financials and it has more than $100 billion in cash.?
