A lot depends on why the kids were removed. If the initial reason was neglect or something they consider minor, then they say 30 days because they believe the parents can get their act together in that time frame. If however, they find out more bad stuff was going on or the parents can't seem to do what they are told, then 30 days doesn't apply. I always remind myself that they never know at time of removal exactly what happened, nor have they done any indepth investigation of the parents. So whatever I'm being told, I take with a grain of tiny, tiny salt.
