In today's society there is a lot of talk about renewable energy sources, to power various appliances and in particular to reduce the carbon foot print in order to reduce the environmental impact fossil fuels place on the environment. There are various forms of renewable energy which ranges from solar cells, solar panels, geothermal energy, wave power, tidal power and hydro-electric power, biomass wind turbines and wind generators,.
The earliest windmills were found in Persia and date back to 200B.C. Early in the 1990's India developed and harnessed wind power which has the fifth largest wind turbines in the world.
Wind farms usually have wind generators which are three blades to capture the wind's energy to generate electrical power. A wind turbine looks like a modern style of the older style wind mills. These new wind turbines use stored energy or potential energy to turn a rotor. This is when potential energy is converted to kinetic energy as the rotor turns. This kinetic energy which moves the blades of the windmill is known as mechanical energy. When the mechanical energy is used to generate electricity it is known as a wind generator but if the energy is used to grind seeds such as wheat, it is known as a windmill.
Wind turbines come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with the most common being, where the rotor spin on vertical axis one as seen on wind farms, while others have utilized the concept of horizontal axis, where the rotor and electrical generator is near the apex. They are becoming exceedingly common in today's society. With the escalating costs of fossil fuel which is near depletion there is now a need to look towards renewable energy source.
In 1974 America Wind Energy Association was formed to educate Congress about wind energy and it potential. It has provided statistical data. By 2001 the World Wind Energy Council was formed with over 100 members from different countries, who have joined to promote and encourage the new technologies in capturing this renewable energy source - wind energy.
In many countries around the world, are now looking to capture the free energy from the sun, with the use of solar panels to generate the power they need. Germany is one of the top countries in the world to encourage home owners to install solar power. It generates around 17,000 megawatts of solar energy power from the sun. Due to the Government's incentives for home owners and the feed-in tariff, solar energy in Germany is expanding. The German Government has set a target of 66 GW of solar energy to be generated by 2030.
Developed countries around the world are consuming more and more energy due to modern home appliances. A good example is the modern air conditioner which consumes a large amount of electrical power, fridges, freezers, televisions and computers are just a number of other power consuming appliances. Driers which are used, due to the busy lifestyle our modern day existence demands. All these appliances tend together drain electricity in ever increasing amounts. This places a strain on our pockets and with the cost of the escalating price of power it is no wonder people are turning to renewable energy to power their homes. With fossil fuels being a finite resource it's no wonder we are looking at solar power or wind power to supplement their needs. Renewable resources provide the same energy, which although may have a high cost to install will end up saving thousand in the long run.
Now that's all very well... but what about other countries that do not provide the same incentives?
